FLORENCE, May 14th 2024 – Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Fair Play Menarini International Award, the event that, every year, celebrates athletes who have become global standard bearers of ethics, loyalty and respect.
Florence and Fiesole once again open their doors to the event that, since 1997, has honoured over 400 sporting legends of the calibre of Javier Zanetti, Federica Pellegrini, Gabriel Batistuta and Tommie Smith.
The first new feature of this year’s edition is the partnership with Sky TG24 which will cover the Award days. The official proceedings will kick off on Wednesday 3 July with the traditional gala dinner to welcome the future award winners in the stunning setting of Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence. On Thursday 4 July, the spotlight will be on the Roman Theatre in Fiesole for the award ceremony, broadcast on Sportitalia, which will crown the winners of the 2024 edition as Fair Play Menarini Ambassadors: champions of fair play, solidarity and all the core values that turn athletes into eternal legends.
Following on from last year, the event will be preceded by two fundamental stages.
The names of the 2024 winners will be revealed on Wednesday 5 June during the presentation at the press conference, to be held in Rome in the Hall of Honour of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). On this occasion, the “Young Athletes” Fair Play Menarini Award will also be presented, celebrating the finest examples of “fair play” shown by the younger generations.
On Monday 17 June, the “Study and Sport” Special Prize Fiamme Gialle, set up in collaboration with the Sports Division of the Italian Finance Police (known as the Fiamme Gialle) and CONI Tuscany, will be presented during the press conference in Florence.
“We are excited to announce a new edition packed with surprises that we can’t wait to reveal – say Antonello Biscini, Valeria Speroni Cardi and Ennio Troiano, Members of the Board of the Fair Play Menarini Foundation – Our hope is that, once again this year, the stories and values of the new award winners will serve as inspiration, especially for the younger generations”.
